Cafe Columbia is a series of informal discussions, led by Columbia University faculty, focused broadly on the arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences. The discussions are held at the Picnic Market Cafe at 2665 Broadway (between 101st and 102nd Street).

Professor of History Marc Van De Mieroop will discuss
Truth: An Ancient Babylonian Perspective

The search for truth is as old as human existence, but various cultures have had different approaches to it. Van De Mieroop will explore what methods the ancient Babylonians, who left us the earliest writings in world history, used in this pursuit. The Babyloniansí methods were very different from what we know from the ancient Greeks, but no less coherent or rational.
