About the Workshop

You may know you’re the perfect candidate, but you still have to convince them!  How you communicate via your emails and letters can land you the position, or get you rejected.  An email or cover letter that strikes the right tone, shows them you heard them, and demonstrates how you can help them and why you want to work there can go a long way towards sealing the deal.  On the other hand, grammar mistakes, dense paragraphs, the “wrong” verbiage or a focus on the wrong things can derail your candidacy. 

In this workshop, you will learn the key elements of successful business writing for the job search.  In particular, you will learn what every cover should include, how to strike the right tone in your correspondence, and specific verbiage that you should consider using.

Plus, you will get an opportunity to gain immediate feedback on your emails and letters from the instructor.  Just email a sample of your correspondence to rob@hellmannconsulting.com with the subject line “Montclair Workshop”. The first 10 that are received (possibly more) will be shared with the class to obtain immediate feedback (your/others’ names and addresses will be removed).




Optional pre-work (this is not required):
  • Attend Rob Hellmann's webinar, “Getting Interviews: Keys to the Hidden Job Market”, occuring on January 9 or view the recorded webinar which will be available shortly after the program.
  • Please email sample correspondence to rob@hellmannconsulting.com (either cover letters or emails you have sent out that are job-search related), so that you can receive feedback—subject line “Montclair Workshop”.  All names and addresses will be removed to protect privacy.

About the Speaker

Robert Hellman is a certified Five O'Clock Club Career Coach, a Vice President at the Club, a professor at New York University, and author of the book Your Social Media Job Search. The Five O’Clock Club is a national outplacement and career counseling network with certified career counselors across the United States. Robert Hellman has helped hundreds of clients in diverse industries and professions to define and reach their job-search and on-the-job goals. In addition to his private coaching practice, Rob’s career-related insights and commentary have appeared in media outlets such as the New York Times, Forbes, the Washington Post, Money Magazine, CNBC.com, ABC News and Fox News. He combines his more than 20 years in corporate marketing (at companies such as American Express and JP Morgan Chase) with his Five O'Clock Club training to help people market themselves in their careers.

Step 2: Click on your name from the list provided.
