Following their successful concert collaboration last year, Van Vleck House & Gardens and Montclair State University announced a series of five new Sunday concerts, beginning on October 20.

The concerts welcome faculty, student and visiting artists who will perform at the Van Vleck property, with all concerts open to the public with no charge for admission.

The first concert of this season will feature a program of original works for classical guitar by modern American composers, performed by Loren C. Fortna.  Professor Fortna teaches classical guitar at the John J. Cali School of Music and is an experienced performer and teacher.  The program is called “American Rhapsody,” which consists of pieces by living guitarist-composers that “fuse modernisms with hints of ragtime, show tunes, impressionism, and bluegrass.”

Attracting talented students, faculty, and visiting artists from around the world, the Cali School has shared its music resources with a growing audience through this series.

Additional concerts in this series are scheduled for November 3, February 23, March 23 and April 13, all Sundays at 2 pm.
Reserved seating is available by contacting 973-744-4752 or  Seating is limited, so reservations are required.  Previous concerts have over-subscribed.  There is no admission charge, but contributions are welcome.

Van Vleck House & Gardens recently announced the creation of a Music Patron program to help expand its music and arts programming (including concerts such as the Cali School collaborations). Music Patrons enjoy special privileges, including special reserved seating, advance notices of events, special receptions and mention in concert programs.  For information about the Music Patron program, contact Van Vleck by telephone or email.

For many years, Van Vleck House & Gardens has been a center of arts and music resources for the Montclair community. The Montclair Foundation (the owner of the Van Vleck property) has a long tradition supporting arts activities and organizations.
