Hockey Notes
:
The UMass hockey program will look to build upon last yearís successes, which included a 9-4-3 record at home and wins over two No. 1-ranked teams, as the squad embarks upon its first campaign under new Head Coach John Micheletto.

Among the 25 players returning from the 2011-12 team are three of the Minutemenís top four scorers. Conor Sheary and Michael Pereira put up 35 and 34 points apiece, respectively last season as sophomores, while classmate Joel Hanley had 25 points to rank fifth among all defensemen in Hockey East.

Playing in one of the finest venues in all of college hockey, UMass ranked seventh nationally in average attendance last season and will host 11 of its first 15 contests to start the 2012-13 campaign. The season opener is set for Oct. 12 at the Mullins Center against Connecticut, followed by home games against Boston College and Boston University on Oct. 19 and Oct 27, respectively.

Basketball Notes:
The 2012-13 UMass men's basketball season is one of the most anticipated in recent memory. Coming off last year's 25-win season and NIT Final Four run, the Minutemen return nine letter-winners and welcome three newcomers who are ready to take the program to the next level.
The fresh faces include Tyler Bergantino, a 6-9 big man from Florida who averaged 17.2 points, 13.5 rebounds and 5.7 blocks as a senior, Trey Davis, a 6-0 guard from Dallas who can score from anywhere on the floor and notched 25.6 points and 7.8 assists per game as a senior in 2010-11; and Izzy Freeman - the third 7-footer to play at UMass, a shot-blocker who posted 14.9 points and seven blocks per game at South Kent Prep School last season.
UMass will play four games on the ESPN family of networks, including a match-up with NCAA Tournament participant Harvard on Nov. 13 at the Mullins Center as part of the ESPN Tip-Off Marathon. The schedule will feature 14 home games in the 20th season for the Mullins Center, including match-ups in the expanded Atlantic 10 Conference against Butler, Dayton, Rhode Island, Saint Joseph's and Temple.
