Help celebrate 150 years of UMass Amherst by participating in the MassImpact 2nd Annual Day of Service as alumni, families and friends come together to serve their communities. Be a part of a big initiative that helps show how UMass has continued to make the world a better place for 150 years!

We are looking for alumni to engage in community service activities in their local areas on September 28, 2013. To volunteer, contact the volunteer coordinator of the alumni service project in your area!

Service Pojects:
  • Florence, MA - Look Park Cleanup (10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.)
    Volunteers will be cleaning and painting picnic tables at Look Park, located at 300 North Main Street in Florence, MA. All supplies will be provided by the park; please wear clothes appropriate for this type of work. Volunteers will meet at the Garden House in Look Park, which is their main banquet hall (click here for a map of Look Park). Park in the area across from or behind the Sweet Shop (across from the ball field area), and tell the ranger at the booth that you are from the Alumni Association and they will let you through.   • Lawrence, MA - Manchester St. Park Cleanup (10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.)
    Volunteers will be cleaning up Manchester Street Park located at 77 Manchester Street in Lawrence, MA. Wear clothes appropriate for gardening, weeding and similar activities. Release forms must be signed in order to participate. After the cleanup, volunteers can participate in an informal lunch together if they so choose. Meet at the sign for Groundworks Lawrence.   • Nashua, NH - Gate City Community Gardens Cleanup (9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.)
    Volunteers will be helping the gardeners with fall cleanup of the Gate City Community Gardens. The Gardens are at the end of Everett St, with parking available along Everett. Please bring gardening tools such as a rake, hoe or shovels if you have them. Volunteers of all ages are welcome! Dress for gardening and local weather (work gloves, boots, old clothes - maroon and white if you have them!) and bring lunch, snacks and water. The event will take place as scheduled even in light rain, but heavy rain will cancel the event. To sign up, please contact Linda Haggerty at lshum74@aol.com or 603.305.1934 (email preferred).
  • Raleigh, NC - Dress for Success
    The week of September 23-28, volunteers will collect donations for Dress for Success, an organization that collects and provides gently-used business attire for those who need them. The drop-off location from Monday the 23rd through Friday the 27th is the office of Dr. W. Glenn Lyle, M.D.'s, 1112 Dresser Court, Raleigh, NC 27609; phone number 919.872.2616, between business hours of 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The drop off location on Saturday the 28th is the Dress for Success office, 1390 Capital Blvd., Raleigh, NC 27603 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

  • Chicago, IL - PAWS Chicago Rescue & Recovery Center (10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.)
    We will be undertaking cleaning and organization projects, preparing animal-related supplies and administrative projects such as making appointment confirmations, folding collars, assembling cat carriers, filing, kitchen work, stocking and organizing food donations, etc. Please note that volunteering does require going up and down steps, you must be at least 18 years old and you will need to sign a liability waiver. Volunteers are asked to wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts and to avoid wearing perfume/cologne and dangling jewelry. Metered parking is typically available; please do not park in the bank parking lot directly behind the PAWS Center. If using public transportation, the CTA #60 Blue Island bus drop-off is about 1/4 block from the Center, and about a 45 minute ride from the Loop. PAWS Chicago is located at 3516 W. 26th Street, Chicago, IL.
