We invite you to join Rochester alumni and friends for a producer’s screening and reception for Shoulders To Stand On. This documentary feature film traces the history of Rochester’s LGBTQ community and highlights the key role that University of Rochester students and faculty played in the equality movement.

Shoulders to Stand On celebrates the brave men and women who had the courage to step out of the closet, allowing their voices to be heard, in the tradition of a city whose history is firmly grounded in freedom and equal rights for all.

For over a decade, Executive Producer Evelyn Bailey has been documenting
the LGBTQ history of Rochester and digitizing the Empty Closet, the oldest LGBTQ newsletter in the country.

We hope that you will join us for this unprecedented look into Rochester’s history.
Be surprised, be challenged, be proud!
